York Hotel Manager Burnham “Burns Up” The Miles For Charity
A York Hotel Manager is once again dusting off his running shoes as he prepares to take part in this year’s Great North Run and raise funds for a city charity.
And in a bid to woo would-be sponsors this Tuesday (September 16) Darrell Burnham from the Best Western Monkbar Hotel, will run 14 miles to Hazelwood Castle, where colleagues from Business Networking are holding a lunchtime meeting.
Darrell, who has already raised thousands of pounds for good causes by completing numerous long distance races, is running for the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Woodlands resource and respite care centre, on Hull Road.
He said: “Woodlands is a wonderful centre and this is the second time I’m running to raise money for them. I hope the people attending the lunch meeting at Hazelwood Castle will appreciate my efforts and sponsor me. It would be fabulous to come away with a pledge from everyone.”
He added: “This will be the second time I’ve taken part in the Great North Run and I’m looking forward to the challenge again. Tuesday’s run, which is about the same distance as a half marathon, is great preparation for the main event later this month.”
Rachael Chamberlain from Woodlands said: “We are incredibly grateful to Darrell for choosing us and wish him every success. Without people like him we wouldn’t be able to carry out all the work we do in York.
“We will be at the Monkbar Hotel on Tuesday to wave him off and of course we will be thinking of him on the big day. The hotel should be very proud of him.”
Pledges can be made to support Darrell’s Great North Run by contacting him at The Best Western Monkbar Hotel, on 01904 667700.
