York’s Best Western Monkbar Hotel is celebrating after picking up a hat-trick of awards at this year’s York Tourism “Oscars”.
At a glittering ceremony held at York Racecourse, Elizabeth Duck won the award for Best Sales, Administration or Reservations Employee, Tony Newby carried off the Best Kitchen Staff prize and Tracey Heath was named Best Housekeeper.
The hotel was also a finalist in the best employer category.
Monkbar Hotel director June Nelsey said: “It was a fantastic night for the Monkbar Hotel and an even better one for the team. Tony, Elizabeth and Tracey richly deserved their awards and we are all very proud of them.
“The hospitality industry is all about people and the people we have working at the Monkbar are exceptional. You will have to go a very long way to find any better.
“We have a saying here; ‘It’s the team work that makes the dream work!’ And it couldn’t be truer.”
Of Elizabeth Duck, the judges picked up on her being a “highly respected and liked member of the team. Being calm, collected and kind, and never having a cross word about anyone”.
With Tony Newby’s entry, it was him “knowing the importance of quality care”.
“Thanks to Tony, the hotel didn’t get complaints about dirty plates, it got compliments about the sparkle on them”.
With Tracey Heath it was her “caring passionately about the quality of the housekeeping service, and taking particular delight in ensuring that special celebrations in the hotel are identified so that she can present the room to give a Wow factor”, that caught the judge’s eye.
