York’s Monkbar Hotel Gets New “Pedigree Chum”
The Monkbar Hotel’s new “Pedigree Chum” – Misty the Labrador
York’s Best Western Monkbar Hotel has adopted a new “pedigree chum” to replace Bonnie the Labrador, a much loved member of the team, who at the end of last year went to the big Silver Kennel in the Sky!
Hotel Director June Nelsey said: “We always prided ourselves on being a dog-friendly hotel with dog walks, dog beds and biscuits on the pillows.
“When we were invited in 2005 to participate in the ‘Bring your Dog to Work Day’ Bonnie enjoyed her day so much that she became a permanent member of the team. When she handed in her notice, she left a big dog-shaped hole in our hearts and a very empty basket.”
Life just wasn’t the same at the hotel without a General Dogsbody, so June approached the charity - Labrador Welfare – which specialises in the re-homing of mature dogs.
June added: “Like a Christmas wish come true, Misty, aged seven and a half, was looking for a new home and so the golden girl arrived and she’s a real cracker!”
June Roberts from Labrador Welfare said: “It’s great that the staff at the Best Western Monkbar Hotel have welcomed another Labrador from the rescue centre – we just know that properly trained a man can be a dog’s best friend, and we think she’ll have plenty of those”.
