A York hotel manager is swimming, cycling and running into shape all in the name of charity.
Neil Hudson, 38, of the Best Western Monkbar Hotel, is currently following a strict 12-week training regime in preparation for a triathlon event which takes place at Beverley Leisure Centre on Sunday August 23.
Contenders will power their way through a 400m swim, followed by a 20km cycle, and lastly a five km run to complete the event.
Conference Manager Neil, who has been with the award-winning Monkbar Hotel for 14 years, hopes to complete it in one hour and 25 minutes.
He is raising money for The Special Olympia City Of York team, who are preparing to take part in the World Games in Athens in 2011.
Speaking of the upcoming event, Neil said: “The Special Olympia City of York team is such a great cause to represent. I’m really glad I can help as the young people and adults are all so excited about competing in Athens in two years’ time.
“The triathlon is open to athletes of all abilities. I used to be a keen runner; however the last 20 years have taken their toll! I’m actually relishing the challenge of getting back into shape.”
As part of his rigorous 12-week training programme, Neil runs and cycles twice a week and regularly swims at Yearsley pool in York.
