Staff at York’s Best Western Monkbar hotel are ditching the razors and shaving foam this month to take part in a charity initiative to raise awareness of male cancers.
During the month of November, the “Movember” campaign is encouraging men to grow moustaches to highlight men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer.
And to support the hair-raising initiative, a number of employees from the city centre hotel have vowed to forsake their clean-shaven looks for a fury top lip.
Those taking part include Head Chef Eezie Ochieng, assistant managers Alex Goff and Greg Palmer, and Conference Manager Neil Hudson.
Monkbar Hotel Director June Nelsey said: “Each year our girls take part in the Race For Life so this ‘Movember’ it’s the turn of the boys to do their bit to raise money for cancer charities.
“Our participants are being challenged to grow the thickest and longest moustache, which I know will be extremely difficult for one of the competitors but Lesley likes to think of herself as just one of the boys!”
“I think ‘Movember’ is a fantastic way to raise awareness of male cancers. I’m looking forward to seeing the hairy progress each day, and of course judging the final results. It could well be a close shave!”
Participants of Movember are known as Mo Bro’s and “Movember” has so far raised £106 million globally.
