York Hotel Shows It Has Got Bags Of Personality
York’s Best Western Monkbar Hotel will prove it has bags of personality this weekend (Saturday, April 17) when staff take to an outdoor stage and entertain shoppers.
The award-winning city centre venue is one hundreds of Best Western Hotels up and down the country supporting the York-based company’s “Hotels With Personality” campaign.
The initiative, which launches tomorrow (April 15), includes high-profile media activity and a Britain’s Got Personality Roadshow – featuring key Monkbar staff - which pulls into York’s Parliament Street on Saturday morning.
Here, Food and Beverage Manager Dave Asbury and Breakfast Hostess, Kayleigh Hughes, will show off their musical talents by taking to the stage as Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, in their rendition of Islands in the Stream.
They will then be followed by Assistant Managers – identical twins – Tom and Ben Richardson who will lead shoppers “Mr Motivator-style” in a high-adrenaline keep fit routine.
Monkbar Hotel Director June Nelsey said: “The Monkbar is one of the best-known hotels in the city because it has not only bags of personality – but rooms full of it.
“We are incredibly proud of our reputation for being imaginative and quirky and at the same time offering great service and value for money.
“When Best Western launched its “Hotels with Personality” campaign we didn’t need to be asked twice to take part.
“It’s a great initiative as even though Best Western is a global membership organization, each hotel is individual and has a unique personality. No two are the same. The only similarity is the desire to offer customers a truly memorable stay.”
Only last week, the Monkbar Hotel hit the headlines for devising a General S-Election menu with dishes named after the three main party leaders.
It was the first hotel to appoint a water sommelier and create dog-friendly walks around the city. Its hotel dog has also featured on regional television news programmes and has hundreds of followers on her Facebook and Twitter sites.
The Best Western “Hotels With Personality” campaign aims to differentiate the group from “boring, old formulaic chains offering generic hotel stays in the UK”.
The Roadshow, which will be in Parliament Street from 11am on Saturday, aims to find members of the public from five areas – York, Cardiff, London, Edinburgh and Birmingham – with big personalities. They will be invited to show off their unique talent with a mini performance.
