York hotel in need of cups and saucers
for charity “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party”
The Best Western Monkbar Hotel – which this year celebrates its twentieth birthday – is marking the occasion with an event in aid of Martin House Hospice.
The award winning hotel is to stage a “Mad Hatter’s Birthday Tea Party”, planning to serve tea in a myriad of different cups and saucers, to mirror the Lewis Carroll book.
And, once the party has finished, the crockery will then be sold in the Martin House shops in Skipton, Selby, Boston Spa and Headingley, to raise funds for Yorkshire’s only dedicated children’s hospice.
Monkbar Hotel Director June Nelsey said: “We have been supporting Martin House for a number of years now, and felt we would combine our twentieth birthday event with an event for them too.
“Because we are known for our quirkiness, we have plumped for a ‘Mad Hatter’s Birthday Tea Party’ event, when tea will be served in a variety of cups and saucers.
“However, as we only have traditional hotel crockery, we are now asking the public if they will donate either whole sets, or individual cups, saucers, cake stands, tea plates or cutlery.”
Martin House Corporate Fundraiser Brenda Peel said: “Our ongoing relationship with the Monkbar Hotel is continuing to grow, and we’re so thankful for its support, which is just fantastic.
“Asking for cups and saucers – which we can then sell – is an inspired fundraising initiative. It’s far from mad!”
Anyone with cups and saucers to donate should leave them at the Monkbar Hotel’s reception, St Maurice’s Road, York, before the event, which takes place on Friday, September 24.
