York Hotel "Ref-Herbs" Its Courtyard For Culinary Purposes
A York hotel has carried out an environmentally friendly “ref-herb” to its courtyard – all in the name of mouth-watering cuisine and reducing the venue’s carbon footprint!
Staff at the award-winning Best Western Monkbar Hotel have created a herb garden within the popular area overlooked by guest bedrooms, as part of their “green” commitment.
The hotel, which has a “bronze” Green Tourism Award, is now aiming for silver, and the herb garden –which will be utilised by the kitchen brigade in their food preparation - is part of a series of new initiatives to help gain this.
Monkbar Hotel Director June Nelsey said: “We are proud of our Bronze award but out sights are firmly set on silver and eventually gold. Operating in a more environmentally manner makes good business sense.
“The herb garden, which was planted by green-fingered breakfast supervisor Kayleigh Hughes, is one of a number of new steps we are introducing this year, building on the existing policies and procedures.
“We use fresh, local produce wherever we can, and what can be more local and fresher than herbs picked from our own courtyard herb garden?”
