York's Monkbar Hotel Helps Care For City Carers
A York hotel will be pulling out the stops early next month to help care for the city’s carers.
The Best Western Monkbar Hotel is working closely with the York Carers Forum to help it celebrate the service and dedication given by carers during the UK Carers Week, which begins on Monday, June 14.
Last year June Nelsey, Hotel Director, was appointed a Patron of the York Carers Forum, as she herself had been a carer both for her husband and mother.
For its part, the Monkbar Hotel is sponsoring a day of information, entertainment and activities, featuring singers, massages, refreshments, musical entertainment and a visit from the Lord Mayor, taking pace on Monday, June 14.
June said: “Carers really are this country’s unsung heroes. This week is all about recognising the invaluable work they do, often caring for a loved one around the clock without any time off.
“It was a great honour when I was asked to become a patron of York Carers Forum by two of the founders, Katie Smith and Irene Mace, who are totally inspirational in all they achieve.”
June added: “Everyone at the hotel is delighted to take part and to give their time freely to entertain both carers and their loved ones.
“It is billed as a fun event and that’s what we will be delivering. It’s open to the public and we hope it will attract a good number of visitors.”
Another highlight of the week is a Thanksgiving Service at York Minister. This takes place in York Minster Quire at 1.30pm on Thursday, June 17, and lasts for approximately 45 minutes. It is followed by refreshments.
During the service there will be an opportunity to light a candle for a loved one, and the names of those no longer living will be read out during the service.
